Holidays can trigger an array of emotions. Any time you are in a relationship with another person, there is a possibility of injury. Oftentimes, holidays trigger a time of reflection where you recall memories with a loved one. Or maybe it is a time where you reflect on a past relationship. Family, friend, or foe, we are all imperfect beings. Either way, managing your emotions constructively is essential.
Focus on what you can or could control.
Look for a lesson in every experience.
Surround yourself with people who appreciate and value you.
Manage your expectations of others.
Seek refuge in the community if you need strength.
Recall the "good."
Don't focus on one specific encounter.
Guard your heart, and don't become bitter.
Move forward establishing and honoring clear boundaries!
Choose to believe better days are ahead.
It's not easy, but we need relationships. Relationships help us grow. We will wound and be wounded. But if we are willing to do the work to navigate relationships, the benefits outweigh the potential risks.
